A bear stands on a ridge of snow, scenting the wind. Carved by the late Les Carpenter, a much-respected northern leader and radio personality, this sculpture is a rare find of striking beauty.

Les Carpenter was an Inuvialuk leader, radio broadcaster, and Indigenous rights advocate. Originally from Sachs Harbour, NWT, he was the founding chair of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, vice chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council, and CEO of the Native Communications Society. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 61 and was posthumously awarded the Order of the NWT.
